Originally hailing from Buenos Aires, Hernan Palacio is a performer, comedian and caterer who started an Argentinean barbecuing business here in Australia nearly five years ago. Apart from making finger-licking good ribs, he’s also quite a memorable character and well known among St Kilda locals.
Running Senor BBQ from behind Pure Pop records in St Kilda as well as working the St Kilda Night Market and catering at festivals, he’s now taken the next step, opening his own business in Balaclava. Located just by Balaclava train station, the Senor has gathered funds from the regulars he fed during his five years of temporary barbecues by asking for pledges on crowd funding site pozible.com.
He opened the doors last Friday night with the much-loved asado (beef ribs), chorizo, char-grilled chicken and house chimichurri sauce featuring on the menu. The new space is basic but homely with a courtyard perfect for summer fiestas.
It’s a testament to community and we’re glad to see Hernan achieve this goal, and give us somewhere to go to keep eating those ribs.
