In its first five years on the scene, Seamstress has become one of Melbourne’s nightlife mainstays. This bar’s commitment to classic drinks, served with a nod to modern kitchen techniques, has won them a legion of fans.
It’s all about the personal touches at Seamstress. There’s seated table service at all times, the staff all know their stuff and the mature cocktail list is focused on reinterpretations of modern classics. It goes without saying that all the ingredients are fresh and ice for spirits is hand carved. Nothing is done by halves at Seamstress, and it shows.
For their evening at The Broadsheet Bar, presented by Schweppes, the Seamstress team are bringing in a smash, a cooler, a sour and what they have dubbed the best martini in town. The Saw-turn Smash combines late-harvest Muscat wine with crushed grapes, peach vermouth, lime juice, honey and a dash of ‘secret elixir’. The Bellini-inspired Venetian Cooler mixes French sparkling wine with pureed peaches, pomegranate, lemon and a splash of sherry. The Pisco Sour takes Peruvian Pisco brandy as the base, shaken with citrus, cane sugar syrup and egg whites until silky and served with a blend of bitters. Lastly, the ‘Seamstress Martini Method’ takes seven parts frozen spirit, one part chilled French Vermouth and two parts chilled still mineral water. Mixed briefly and served in a frozen glass with your choice of garnish, this is martini perfection.
