Melburnians, you’ve proved nothing will stop you in the hunt for good food –even the depths of winter.

Attendance rates at Queen Victoria Market’s annual Winter Night Market jumped 60 per cent this year, with more than 300,000 people attending since opening night in early June. It’s the biggest crowd the event has drawn since it began six years ago.

As a result, the Night Market (which was supposed to finish up on August 30) has been extended to Wednesday October 4.

That means an extra five weeks to peruse 30 different food vendors, including That’s Amore (with its parmesan pasta), George the Fishmonger (lobster rolls), Cypriot Kitchen (souvlakis), Butterlake (Taiwanese pancakes) and Those Girls (bone broth). Movida’s Paco’s Tacos is the one vendor that will not be staying on until October.

New Orleans Gumbo Kitchen is hopping on for the five-week extension, offering a Cajun chicken pack with rice and coleslaw.

Once you’re full, head to the 50 art, design and plant stalls.

The Winter Night Market will run every Wednesday until October 4, from 5pm to 10pm. Entry is free. For more information, visit thenightmarket.com.au.
