Entrepreneur and baking doyenne Phillippa Grogan expanded her empire last week with the opening of Phillippa’s on Howey Place, smack-bang in the centre of the city.

Following on from her flagship store on High Street, Armadale and another on Hampton Street, Brighton, this small store sits in a laneway off Little Collins, between Swanston and Elizabeth Streets.

The CBD Phillippa’s will, naturally, focus on her delectable loaves, but there’ll be breakfast rolls too if you’re running late – honey and whole wheat rolls filled with a dill omelette and smoked trout – as well as five seasonal sandwiches daily, including the delicious, pan-fried eggplant, buffalo mozzarella, anchovies and raisin relish on organic sourdough.

Also available are yoghurt pots with or without granola, salad packs to take back to the office (if you’re off the bread for a few days), her jars of signature preserves and chutneys, not to mention coffee.

It’s a refreshing approach to supplying city workers quality food on the way to or from work.
