Carlton’s experimental South East Asian cafe, Nora, will wrap up its daytime service for good at the end of this month.

It’s not all bad news. In August last year, owners Jean Thamthanakorn and Sarin Rojanametin began Small Dinner Club, a weekly five-course degustation at the cafe on Friday nights.

Soon, the ultra-experimental Small Dinner Club will be a nightly affair.

“Lunch service will only be available on the weekends and the menu will be an extension of the dinner-tasting menu,” says Rojanametin.

The move comes after a Pozible crowdfunding campaign, which proposed building a full commercial kitchen in the tiny venue.

“Our goal has been to create a one-of-a-kind experience: something which will generate a conversation; challenge your mind and offer something unexpected,” Rojanametin detailed in the campaign pitch. “We want to break down the barrier between the chef and the customer, and to curate every detail ourselves, from the tableware we make, to the pictures on the walls.”

In the meantime, you’ve got just under a month left to check out Nora’s left-of-centre Asian breakfasts and filter and cold-drip coffee. Get cracking.

Nora will close at the end of February, and the Small Dinner Club will begin at the start of March. Exact dates yet to be confirmed.
