Only four months after going up, the tent is being packed down at Le Grand Cirque. Backed by George Calombaris' Made Establishment group, ubiquitous TV chef Manu Feildel intended to present classic French food in a relaxed manner – but diners weren’t biting.
In a statement released this afternoon, Feildel said that Le Grand Cirque was a long-held dream come true: "I've loved every minute of it. I would like to thank all who have supported me in this venture, especially my mate George Calombaris and the other Made Establishment directors. Also a big thank you to my staff, family and friends who have supported my dream.”
The Australian’s critic, John Lethlean named Le Grand Cirque, “a restaurant that seems to exist purely to leverage the celebrity of the man whose books decorate this restaurant’s foyer.”
Neither Feildel nor a Made representative were available for comment this afternoon, and the future of the Daly Street venue remains unclear. The final service is on Saturday August 9.
