While images of Tour de France spectators sunning themselves trackside, munching on baguettes and pastries while they gaze over the French countryside often induce pangs of severe summer envy, this year they won’t.
It might still be cold outside, but there is now a cosy place to join fellow Tour fanatics through the night, where keeping warm is a high priority. After keeping us entertained on hot summer nights, the team at The Shadow Electric are setting up a temporary bar, screening the key stages of this year’s Tour.
Throughout the event, Thornbury space Nest Coworking will be transformed into Domestique, a sports bar with a touch of class. While the literal translation of domesitque is ‘servant’, in the cycling world a domestique is a racer who works for the benefit of his team.
Domestique will be serving up a selection of quality beer and wine, as well as late night cheese, olives, breads and dips to keep your energy levels up during the wee hours.
They’re even be installing 24 bicycle racks so that your wheeled companion can transport you there. Cycle down from 7pm Thursday through to Sunday when the bar will open its doors, with music and films before the race. Screenings will include all the mountain stages and the all-important time trails.
Domestique opens Thursday July 5 and runs Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights until Sunday July 22.
