For most people, there are a few things in life that are essential to starting the day well. Apart from a good night’s rest prior, it’s fair to assume that the next thing for many would be a good cup of coffee. The other might just be freshly baked bread, though it seems the option is rarely there given that even bakers require the odd day off.
By some act of the gods, Rustica Sourdough, the latest addition to the roster of renewed Brunswick Street eateries, has managed to overcome this obstacle and finds itself offering freshly baked artisan bread, pastries and cakes, along with specialty coffee, seven days a week.
The all-day breakfast menu is sure to be a hit with the Fitzroy crowd, featuring both bakery/cafe classics like the Croque Monsieur and scrambled eggs, as well as the somewhat more daring apple-centred ricotta hotcakes with honeycomb and cream. A lunch menu of delicious take-away friendly sandwiches and stone-baked pizzas is made even better with a modest wine list. Indeed, there’s nothing to stop you spending the better part of your weekend here.
With a house blend from Five Senses Coffee and a rotating single origin each week, Rustica Sourdough is the hippest new kid on this sourdough-loving block.
