If you still haven’t had time to visit the eateries that so often grace the pages of Broadsheet, the impending arrival of Taste of Melbourne is a great chance to tick a number of restaurants off your culinary checklist.

Now in its fifth year, this year’s Taste of Melbourne brings restaurants and gourmet producers, along with international guests, to Albert Park. Over four days, visitors will have access to cooking demonstrations, taste test food from some of the best restaurants in town and stock up their pantries with local produce and wine.

Skip the queues at the restaurants and visit the MoVida and Mamasita tents, as the popular eateries flaunt their respective takes on Spanish and Mexican food at Albert Park. The event won’t be short on flavours from the East either, with the Malaysia Kitchen pop-up exploring food from region, alongside Mahjong and Saké.

Libertine chef Nick Creswick will be on-site for a modernised take on classic French flavours, while dessert queen Philippa Sibley from Albert St Food & Wine brings with her sweet treats and baked goods to take home.

This culinary event will be heaven for locavores, with The Aylesbury and Taxi Dining Room stocking their menus with simple flavours from the best local produce there is. And don’t forget the shopping basket, as you can take a little something with you from Rooftop Honey and Veggie Patch Co., as well as wine from Plumm Wine Theatre.

You can do more than nibble your way through the event (although there’s nothing wrong with that), as there will be masterclasses covering everything from cocktail making (guided by Sensology) to wine appreciation and Malaysian cooking. Of course, if you’d rather leave the cooking to experts, the cooking demonstrations at the Bertolli Taste Kitchen will be the place to do it. Chefs and experts including Darren Purchese of Burch & Purchese, Matt Preston, Philippa Sibley, Frank Camorra and Nuno Mendes (from London’s Viajante) will all don the chef’s cap to show why they’re regarded as some of the best around.

*Taste of Melbourne is a four-day event running from Thursday November 15 to Sunday November 18 at Albert Park. Entry tickets are $25 and are available at tasteofmelbourne.com.au
