We’ve scoured the city for food trucks out and about this Friday, and boy, will there be a lot of deliciousness rolling the streets for lunch and dinner. Some al fresco dining is just the thing to end to the week when you’d rather be out than be in the kitchen. See below for locations and times.

Gumbo Kitchen
Bite into one of Gumbo Kitchen’s mammoth shrimp po’ boys or a steaming spoonful of spicy gumbo for lunch at the Docklands. Just make sure not to skip on their mouth-burning southern sauces and condiments. If you’re still craving Gumbo Kitchen for dinner, they’ll be refilling their tanks and returning to the streets in the evening.

Lunch: Outside AFL House, Harbour Esplanade, Docklands, noon–2pm
Dinner: McCoppins, 165 Johnston Street, Fitzroy, 6pm–9.30pm

Dhaba Curry Truck
The Dhaba folks will also be adding some spice to the Docklands with their steaming hot curries, served with a choice of rice, roti or pappadum crackers. Don’t miss out on their classic Indian street food and their freshly made mango lassi while you’re at it.

Outside AFL House, Harbour Esplanade, Docklands, noon–2pm

Taco Truck
The truck that popularised the contemporary meals-on-wheels movement in Melbourne will be ready and fully loaded for diners looking for a mouth-watering taco fix. They have a reputation of selling out within a couple of hours, so make sure to get in quick.

Ruckers Hill, Northcote, from 6pm until sold out

Beatbox Kitchen
Follow the scent of sizzling burgers or the line of cyclists and walkers heading towards the Park and Rathdowne Street intersection and you might just find yourself in the company with a juicy Raph Burger and a generous helping of hot chips.

Corner Rathdowne and Park Streets, Carlton North, from 6pm until sold out

Yogurddiction
Yogurddiction is like the cute younger sister of Mr Whippy. She rolls around town in a pink truck and her cups of frozen yoghurt come equipped with fresh fruit and your choice of crunchy bits. This one’s going to be a crowd favourite come summer.

Barkly Square, 90–106 Sydney Road noon–4pm

Smokin’ Barry’s
Everything from the Smokin’ Barry’s truck has been simmering, grilling and smoking away for hours and hours. What you get are melt-in-you-mouth sandwiches (or man-wiches) served with spicy sauce and pickles. Just the thing when you’ve worked up an appetite doing the groceries at Barkly Square.

Barkly Square, 90–106 Sydney Road, Brunswick noon–3pm

Cornutopia
Ever wanted a breakfast burrito? Cornutopia will have you covered on Friday in Preston, where they will be stationed bright and early from 8am. Breakfast options also include huevos rancheros. They’ll be sticking around for lunch and dinner with sweet corn, tacos and quesadillas.

Cook Street, Preston 8am–8pm

Grub Food Van
Not actually a moving truck, this Fitzroy cafe makes and serves great coffee and grub out of a vintage campervan. Duck indoors into the greenhouse for a round of post-morning tea ping-pong among pots of fresh herbs and tomato vines.

87–98 Moor Street, Fitzroy, 8am–4pm

Fancy Hank's BBQ
This one isn't really a truck per se, but this smokey barbeque is certainly mobile. Every so often these guys move their big, black smoker serving pork ribs, brisket, salads and pickles to a different bar around the city. This weekend (Friday and Saturday) and for the next few in October, they're over in North Melbourne in the courtyard behind the Metropolitan Hotel.

33 Courtney Street, North Melbourne. See map on the Fancy Hank’s Facebook page.
Friday and Saturday lunch noon–3pm and dinner 6pm–9pm (or until they sell out).
