After the overwhelming response to last year’s Flour Market, the teams from Everyday Coffee and Open Season that collaborated to create the event have tweaked a few things to make their Valentine’s Day ‘Heart Bake Sale’ better and ready for the crowds.

“It will be the same vibe as last time, just bigger, better, and with more stuff,” organiser Mark Free says. “Hopefully we won’t sell out by 10.30am this time, but then, hopefully we will. It’s one of those things where, you don’t want to disappoint people but you do want it to be a success.”

Judging by the inaugural event that sold out in less than two hours, this Flour Market is destined for success. Housed in a more spacious, light-filled venue – The Baron Said on Kerr Street in Fitzroy – six new stallholders will join the repertoire, including Dr Marty's Crumpets, Waffle Jolie and La Belle Miette. Those with a preference for savoury are in for a treat too with offerings courtesy of Pure Pie and steamed buns from Shop Ramen.

Once again, Everyday Coffee will be serving freshly brewed coffee by donation to raise funds for the Familia Moja Bakery Project in Kenya and each represented bakery will donate a product to sell at the coffee stall. Open Season Milk Bar also returns with a fruity line up of milkshake offerings.

On sale there will also be limited-edition Open Season and The Hungry Workshop letterpress Valentine’s cards illustrated by Seb Godfrey, and Flour Market totes by textile designer Sophie Curtain in which to bag your wares.

The Flour Market is an opportunity to showcase Melbourne’s ‘underground’ bakers – those who are emerging and those who are already a part of the city’s specialty and artisan baking community.

Early birds and the super keen can pre-purchase limited-release tickets for entry an hour earlier than general admission to avoid the 9am rush, but be warned, croissant master Lune is arriving late with a secret Valentine’s treat.
