Xanadu chardonnay, a medium-bodied wine from Margaret River, pairs particularly well with goat’s cheese. Find a bottle and swing by Bill’s Farm in the Dairy Hall at Queen Victoria Market where you might luck into Holy Goat’s La Luna, the holy grail of fromage de chevre.

For the spice-minded
The Scorpo pinot gris by lauded Mornington Peninsula winemaker Sandro Mosele is considered one of the best local examples of the style and matches well with spice. Source from one of Melbourne’s many delicatessens – think vacuum-sealed spicy cacciatore from Stocked Food Store on Glenferrie Road in Malvern, or cured salami from Alimentari on Smith Street in Collingwood. Mount Pleasant’s Rosehill shiraz is a great Hunter Valley red and deserves to be paired with A-grade produce. We suggest cellaring this one until winter, when it’ll be cold enough to appreciate with a roast rack of lamb.
