It’s almost 3am on Sunday morning. Most of Brunswick Street’s staple bars are closed or turning the house lights on. You don’t want to give up the night’s ghost, but you also don’t want to cab into the CBD or cross the Yarra. What do you do? Look for Glamorama.

The people behind the South Yarra bar Less Than Zero are teaming up with touring agency Novel to bring electronic artists to a new bar and live-music venue with a 5am licence.

The new owners have lightly renovated the short-lived Little & Olver site, which was First Floor nightclub before that.

So will this new iteration stick?

Glamorama isn’t a run-of-the-mill nightclub. It has an exhaustive drinks list with a heavy Australian whisky leaning, including bottles from Essendon’s New World Whisky Distillery, Bakery Hill and Hellyers Road. There are plans to have a barrel of Starward Whisky (made by New World Whisky) aging in the bar.

“We’ve been told that we’ll probably have one of the best small late-night venue sound systems in Australia,” says Anthony Cannan, one of Glamorama’s five owners. The audio company behind Strawberry Fields Festival, Rainbow Serpent and Let Them Eat Cake installed the venue’s Funktion-One sound system – basically the Ferrari of club speakers.

Former Sweetwater Inn head chef, Shaun Hansen, created a menu of fun, Australian-themed bar food, and will serve until 11pm Wednesday to Sunday. The menu features lamington fried ice cream, “botox pies” (chicken, pork and beef pies with sauce-filled syringes) and vegan chicken wings.

Time will tell if this venue will stick around to be a Fitzroy institution, but it’s worth checking out when the last thing you want to do is call it a night.
