The founder of Power Living Australia Yoga (PLAY), Duncan Peak is responsible for bringing together one of Australia's largest contemporary yoga communities, with studios across Melbourne and Sydney. There's nothing like a nutrient-rich recharge after a few yoga classes, so we asked Peak to share his recipe for one such revitalising drink: a big green smoothie.

"Starting with a base of greens, coconut water, veggies, fruit, nuts, yoghurt, protein powder and any other supplement you like, you get everything you need in one hit, first up in the morning," says Peak.

"The greens are a brilliant source of antioxidants and high in fibre to keep those free radicals at bay and the digestive fire alive. Coconut water is great for rehydration and the natural fats we need. Veggies and fruit, as we know, are packed with vitamins and minerals essential for a healthy immune system, while the nuts are a great source of minerals and essential protein. The yoghurt gives us that much-needed lactobacteria and acidophilus for a healthy gut. Finally, the protein powders (or you could use any supplements you need) help the repair of muscles after a yoga.

"I drink about a litre of this stuff a day, but most people won't need this much. They taste great, are awesome for kids (as you can sneak in a lot of good stuff without them recognising) and are a quick, convenient breakfast that makes you feel like you're looking after yourself."

Duncan Peak's Green Smoothie

1 handful of kale
1 handful of spinach
1/4 avocado
1/2 banana
2 tbsp of Greek yoghurt
300ml of coconut water
1 scoop of ice
8 macadamia nuts
1 tbsp of Green Powder
2 tbsp of Whey Protein Powder
1/2 cheek of mango
1/2 handful of mixed berries
1 dollop of peanut butter

Place all the greens on the bottom of the blender and top with all other ingredients. Add the coconut water and blend to drink. Makes about 1 litre of juice.
