The Everleigh is the bar bartenders visit on their night off. An obsession with perfection, right down to the ice cubes, drives the team behind this bar. And an impressive team it is, with Sasha Petraske of New York’s legendary Milk & Honey and his long-serving employees Michael Madrusan and Lauren Schell helming the ship.
Surveying Gertrude Street from its perch above what was once Dante’s restaurant, The Everleigh is about as polished as they come. Juices are squeezed fresh as drinks are made, speed pourers are banned and ice is hand-cut daily. Although the phrase ‘classic cocktails’ is thrown around a lot these days, there’s nowhere in Melbourne that does them better than The Everleigh.
It’s no surprise, then, that for their visit to The Broadsheet Bar, The Everleigh team are bringing three killer classics with them. For whiskey lovers, there’s a timeless Manhattan, comprising rye whiskey, sweet vermouth and bitters. The Classic Daiquiri is everything expected of Hemingway’s preferred Cuban poison – fresh lime, sugar and white rum. Finally the Quill is a refreshing mix of sweet vermouth, Campari and gin, with a dash of absinthe.
