Although as Melbournians we’re contractually obliged to express our displeasure towards anything imported from Sydney, we feel an exception can be made for Eau De Vie. Down Malthouse Lane, this whiskey-focused bar has an impeccable pedigree, courtesy of owner Sven Almenning, drinks wiz Greg Sanderson and chef Mark Favaloro (ex-MoVida).

The Sydney Eau De Vie has won a slew of awards, most notably the World’s Best New Cocktail Bar last year at the Spirited Awards in New Orleans. Everything is done to the highest level at Eau De Vie – the ingredients are beyond fresh, ice machines are top of the range and the glassware is crystal. You can even purchase a bottle of your favourite tipple and have it stored in a dedicated locker for drinking whenever it takes your fancy.

For The Broadsheet Bar, Eau De Vie have created three cocktails that display this commitment to innovation and perfection. The Yuzu Mule is an enticing mix of vodka, orange and lime juice, honey water and yuzu curd, topped with Eau De Vie’s homemade ginger beer. For a little theatre with your beverage, try the Zacapa Blazer, a combination of 23-year-old Zacapa rum, muscovado sugar syrup and Pedro Ximinez, set on fire and garnished with orange, cinnamon and star anise. Finally, the Nito Punch, served in a punch bowl, mingles citrus vodka, apricot brandy, lemon and cloudy apple juices with a touch of Pinot Grigio and a dehydrated lemon wheel on top.

We’re pretty excited about this one. It’s sure to be a great night at The Broadsheet Bar, presented by Schweppes.
