The Crab Club is taking over the top level of the Lorne Hotel for summer.
In previous years Geoff Lindsay’s crab shack opened in Sorrento during summer (Lindsay is the chef behind Vietnamese restaurant Dandelion in Elwood) and if that pop-up’s popularity is anything to go by, book your seats for Lorne now.
The top floor of the Lorne pub will be temporarily converted into a 120-seat dining room and will open daily from 5pm until the crab runs out. The Crab Club may also accept reservations for lunch sittings if your group is big enough.
On the menu will be daily market runs of mud crab, Antarctic king crab, spanner crab, blue swimmers, sand crab and soft-shells. The crustaceans will be cooked in a variety of ways: steamed with spring onion, ginger and soy; sitting in lemongrass broth, or served chilled with lemon aioli.
On the starter menu there’s crab claws, crab cakes, soft-shell crab sliders, and a crab and coconut salad. There will also be a number of non-crab dishes, plus a kid’s menu.
The first release of bookings is now available from December 27 until January 6. The Crab Club will not be open over the Pier to Pub weekend (January 7–8).
