Six months ago there were washing machines churning out their sudds and bright whites on this sunny corner opposite the train station in Armadale, but right now it’s about flipping over your gold coins for coffee rather than a dryer.
Coin Laundry cafe has only been open for a little under two weeks, but it’s already causing a hum. The white and green space with huge windows, open brickwork details and concrete floors is airy, bright and as fresh as the trademark name suggests.
“It made sense to keep the name that people know the place by,” says owner Matt Vero, who together with partner Steve Rowley worked on the interior design of the clean looking space, and can be found pacing the floors.
Breakfasts are looking like a huge drawcard - think caramelised French toast soldiers with maple and bacon, or house cured ocean trout on potato roesti.
The guys were just denied a liquor licence, so there’s no wine with lunch right now, but there are plans to appeal the decision.
Coffee is Allpress, breads are Noisette or baked in-house and there’s a focus on free range and locally sourced produce.
It sure beats doing the washing.
