Byblos, an award winning bar and restaurant in Brisbane, has opened it’s doors in Melbourne as the first of a series of restaurants slated to open at the new World Trade Centre Wharf precinct.
The Brisbane original is well known for its huge drink selection and house made syrups and glazes and was awarded the Australian Bar Award for Best Drinks Selection in 2009.
With French-trained Lebanese chef, Nino Kanaa, in the kitchen, Byblos offers modern Lebanese cuisine with a Mediterranean influence. Expect classic Lebanese ingredients in dishes like tabbouleh, tahini and fatoush with hummos.
The space is split between two levels, both over looking the Yarra with the Convention Centre on the opposite bank. The fit-out is in traditionally lavish Lebanese style, with red velvet couches and plenty of gold chandeliers hanging from the ceiling.
It’s no secret that restaurants struggle in these newly created waterfront precincts. It’s hard to say if it’s the location, or if it’s that most of these restaurants just aren’t very good. It remains to be seen whether Melburnians will embrace Byblos and the World Trade Centre Wharf.
