Over the last few weeks, you may have noticed some of your favourite restaurants asking if you would like to donate $2 to charity in return for the usually complimentary bread you receive before your meal. This is the premise behind Bread For Good, an initiative that has raised over $30,000 for children in East Africa thanks to some of Australia’s favourite cafes, restaurants and bakeries and their generous patrons.

Partnering with UNICEF, Bread For Good invites cafes, restaurants and bakeries Australia-wide to offer their customers the option of donating a minimum of $2 whenever they order bread. All proceeds go directly towards providing relief and feeding children impacted by the food crisis in East Africa.

Most will attest that food – its preparation and consumption – is all about giving, and by continuing to give when you visit your favourite eateries, you may be helping to save a life. A mere $2 will provide a child with three meals, which can mean a world of difference.

Some of our favourite restaurants are participants, including Anada, Café Vue Heide, Cumulus Inc, Cicciolina and The Press Club's restaurants (Hellenic Republic and Maha) as well as hundreds more across the country.

The fundraiser is running until the end of October, so next time you’re indulging in a meal (and that delicious free bread), spare a thought and a coin for those less fortunate.
