Earlier in the month we reported the sad news that sustainability pioneer Joost Bakker was forced to close his zero-waste restaurant Brothl due to a council dispute.

The silver lining is that the vacated space offered an opportunity for Di and Will Keser of Bowery to Williamsburg to go back to their roots. The couple has just opened a second iteration of Bowery in the space, which happens to be where they started their first business, a cafe called Beetroot, 12 years ago.

“There are still residents in that building that we’ve known since then and kept in touch with, so it feels very natural for us to be back here. It’s like coming full circle,” Di says.

Di and Will also operate Hardware Société across the road, and this second Bowery to Williamsburg is a partnership with Shaun Williams (of the first Bowery to Williamsburg), and the chef at the Hardware Société, Gary Xue.

The theme, menu and opening hours will be exactly the same as the first Bowery to Williamsburg diner; so you will find your favourite American sandwiches with pretzels and pickles, 5 & Dime bagels, sweet pies and Padre coffee, just in a different part of the city.
