After three months, the Smith Street bar behind the vertical slats will close its doors. Run by a creative collective comprising Sarah Booth, interior architect Adele Winteridge, independent wine sellers Blackhearts & Sparrows and Beatbox Kitchen and Taco Truck tycoon Raph Rashid, Black Market will have one last boozy hurrah this Friday November 28, before closing as a public bar and re-opening as an event space.
"It's been a big effort to run Black Market as a hobby while we all had full time jobs," says Booth. "But lots of people have contacted us to use the space so it's nice to be able to continue the collaborative spirit."
One-off events already planned include a Romance Was Born sale on December 6 and a dessert and winematching evening by Pierre Roelofs, on December 19, the night following his final event around the corner at Rosamond.
Swing by tonight for a few glasses of vino or a jug of punch and send off the short-lived but much-loved local in style, and keep an eye on the space for future events.
"We wanted to open it up for other people to make use of the space, so get in touch if you've got any ideas!" Booth says.
