If you thought celebrated Melbourne based Kiwi chef Ben Shewry was a wholesome, friendly, down-to-earth kind of guy - how very wrong you are. In a short film by his mates Johnny Abegg and Colin Page, the Attica chef is shown as a furious, pie-hole-stuffing monster riding a divan chair carried by his long-suffering kitchen staff. Shot in sumptuous black and white in the Ripponlea gardens and set to the music of Thee Oh Sees, the film, which Shewry told Gourmet Traveller is a ‘a pilot for a real-life reality TV series about me and what a great boss I am,’ was created by his production company Awakau Road Films. But despite its excellent production quality, it does raise some unsettling questions about the effects of our modern celebrity chef culture.
