The B.East roared to life a couple of weeks ago, adding some genuine flavour and a unique vibe to its upper-Lygon territory. The latest venture from the team behind Section 8 and Ferdydurke, The B.East is a specialist burger joint that aims, in the words of venue manager Guy Daley, “to make simple, awesome burgers in-house…to do one thing but do it really well”.

The B.East offers an inviting array of beef, venison, chicken and vegetarian burgers, interesting sides and a connoisseur’s selection of beer and wine. Everything apart from the buns is made on the premises and their so-bad-it’s-good signature drink, the Bacon Martini (bacon-infused martini vodka, tabasco and bacon garnish), is an inventive, rollercoaster experience for the palette.

Specials will soon be added to the menu and as word of mouth and their customer base grows, ‘Pig on a Spit Sundays’ are also on the cards for the back space. Live music in the stage area behind the bar has already become a staple in The B.East’s infancy.

There is an unpretentious ambience here, which embraces art and music (there’s enough surf rock to rival a Tarantino soundtrack) in an impressive space. Local artists were encouraged via social media to ‘paste up for a burger’, riffing on different beastly themes. The result is a sprawling collage of the weird and wonderful work covering one full wall of the venue.

Asked about future plans, Daley states simply, “Watch this space – we want to become a benchmark and a focal point for this area. Just a great neighbourhood hang out for burger fanatics like us to eat, have a drink and enjoy.”
