Ben Shewry, the world-renowned owner and chef of Attica, is gathering eight of Australia’s best chefs to join him in his Ripponlea kitchen next month. He’s hosting a dinner party to raise money for local charity Helping Hoops, which supports underprivileged children in Melbourne through basketball.

Neil Perry (Rockpool Group), Maggie Beer (cook, author, food producer), Dan Hunter (Brae), Michale James (Tivoli Road Bakery), Peter Gilmore (Quay, Bennelong), Andrew McConnell (Cutler & Co., Supernormal, Marion, Cumulus Inc., Builders Arms) Analiese Gregory (Bar Brose) and Tad Lombardo (Cioccolato Lombardo) will join Shewry to create a seven-course dinner with snacks and matched beverages.

The stellar culinary line-up comes with a significant price tag. It costs $1000 per person to attend the dinner, although 100 per cent of that will go to Helping Hoops.

Shewry became involved with Helping Hoops in 2013, combining his passion as a basketball coach with his desire to have a positive impact in disadvantaged communities.

“To me, Helping Hoops is about giving children opportunities, support and mentoring that they don’t have access to in everyday life,” says Shewry.

“Like many things in life, when you step out to give a hand to someone who needs it, it’s you that ultimately gets the bigger hand up, without ever expecting it or looking for it.”
