If you’ve queued for a Zonut, tried every shade of Zumbaron or bought the Zumbo Tim Tams, get ready for high tea at Adriano Zumbo’s latest Melbourne venture, Fancy Nance.

Due to open in the Daly Street site formerly occupied by Le Grand Cirque and Mama Baba, Fancy Nance will be a tea salon, bakery, cafe and cocktail bar in one.

This will be a fresh take on the high-tea concept. There won’t be tiered cake stands, but rather a rotating set menu that will be served on large share plates.

A low dividing wall will separate the banquet-seating area from the bakery-cafe where customers can come in for coffee and cake if they don’t want the full degustation. There will also be seasonal treats for takeaway.

As for the space, Studio Tate is transforming it into a contemporary space with lots of pink and brass detailing. If you’ve seen the South Yarra patisserie (complete with hot-pink neon and bubbling marshmallow couches), you know it will be nothing short of extravagant.

The name is a tribute to Zumbo’s mum, who never left the house without full makeup and jewellery. The tea salon will pay homage to Fancy Nance: elegant, playful and full of colour.

Fancy Nance is opening at 21 Daly Street, South Yarra in late March.
