If you’ve ever had to squint your eyes or pull out your phone torch to read the menu at a restaurant, this competition is for you. In partnership with Specsavers, we’re giving away seats at this invite-only dinner raising awareness for a condition that affects more of us than you may think.

Picture this: you’re seated at a beautiful restaurant for dinner, opposite someone you love, in a dimly lit setting – sounds perfect, right? Until you realise you can’t quite make out any of the words on the menu. It’s a common issue, and one you’ve probably solved in the past by whipping out your phone torch or holding the menu further away. It may also be a sign of presbyopia, a common eye condition that affects almost everyone at one stage or another.

To raise awareness of the condition – and to let people know that while it’s totally normal, there are steps you can take to be more comfortable – Broadsheet has joined forces with Specsavers on a one-night-only dining experience.

We’re taking over Brunswick East’s Old Palm Liquor on September 23 for a mood-lit, wine-soaked exclusive meal. Aptly named Nice Seeing You, the experience includes a multi-course menu served in a setting that is all too conducive to presbyopia.

The menu is one you’ll have to discover on the night, slightly obscured in the dim light: but you’ll be able to read it by putting some everyday workarounds into play as you feast. Expect to be greeted with a cocktail on arrival, followed by four courses of the type of food Old Palm Liquor does best: woodfired flatbread, plenty of greens and, of course, fries with garlic mayo.

Keen to attend? The only way to get a seat is by winning one, and we’ve got 21 double passes up for grabs. If there’s someone in your life that tends to bring the menu up close to read it, you might want to consider letting them be your date for the night. All attendees will also take home a voucher to use on a free pair of glasses at Specsavers.

Enter below before 11:59pm on September 10, 2025. Terms and conditions apply.
