Melbourne has plenty of Japanese dining experiences that feel achingly close to the real deal. But in September, Japan’s oldest beer company, Sapporo, will bring an experience to the city unlike anything we’ve seen before. For one night only, the Sapporo Supper Club will take over Kensington’s Younghusband precinct – and we’re giving away free tickets to two lucky punters valued at nearly $400.

The beer giant is pulling out all the stops for the inaugural event. It’s flying renowned sumo wrestlers Hishofuji Hiroki (“the heaviest sumo on earth”) and Ichinojō Takashi to Melbourne especially for the event, where they’ll go head-to-head in a rare exhibition performance demonstrating the art, tradition and spirit of sumo.

Guests can watch the action around a dojo-style ring and hear from the two wrestlers as they share fascinating insights into life inside and outside the ring at a intimate Q&A. All this as you dine on a multi-course feast by Windsor izakaya Mr Miyagi – paired with complimentary Sapporo, Sapporo Black and Yebisu Premium Beer.

Save for a handful of small local events overseen by the Australian Sumo Federation every year, sumo matches – let alone ones like this – don’t really happen on this side of the equator. So, if you’ve never seen the spectacle of Japan’s oldest sport (or been to the country, for that matter), this is a rare chance to experience both without having to hop on a 10-hour flight.

To win the two tickets, enter here before 5pm AEST on September 10, 2025. Terms and conditions apply.

This competition is now closed. The winner is Marina D.
