Tamura Saké Bar has long been a go-to for saké, vinyl and izakaya-style cooking, while Robata approaches Japanese flavours from a distinctly Melbourne angle, centred on charcoal, smoke and the grill.

On Tuesday June 16, the two venues are coming together for a one-night-only dinner at Robata, backed by Asahi Super Dry – and one lucky Broadsheet reader will win a double pass to attend.

The four-course menu will see both kitchens share the spotlight. Tamura owner Fumi Tamura and chef-owner Takako Tamura will lead the opening half of the evening with snacks and entrees inspired by their favourites. Expect taco wasa (octopus marinated in wasabi oil), steamed eggplant in tosazu, and mackerel with curry vinegar on toast.

From there, Robata chef Lily McGrath will serve stuffed chicken maryland with an Asahi beer blanc, alongside fried buckwheat and prawn balls, plus Jerusalem artichokes with artichoke miso.

Guests will be welcomed with a whisky-based cocktail before moving on to perfectly poured Asahi Super Dry throughout the evening. Dessert, prepared by Robata pastry chef Sayaka Otsu, rounds things out with miniature taiyaki and filled mochi.

The dinner takes place from 6pm on Tuesday June 16 at Robata, priced at $150 per person with capacity limited to 80 guests. For your chance to win tickets for two, enter below.

Entries open Monday June 1 and close Friday June 12. Terms and conditions apply.
