Dine Out, Broadsheet’s winter food festival, is back for its second year. In partnership with Mastercard and Doordash, we’re staging 50 new events across the city from Monday July 20 to Sunday July 26. This year’s line-up includes collaborations between top chefs and spotlights on the city’s Mexican and Italian food scenes.

For something a bit more unusual, check out these two events focusing on wild-caught game and lesser-known cuts of meat. They’re perfect if you’re keen to sample some harder-to-come-by dishes.

Carlton Wine Room Goes Wild

After last year’s wild venison dinner, Carlton Wine Room returns to Dine Out with a menu built around wild-caught produce, hand-harvested specifically for this 20-seat dinner. For one night only, you’ll get five courses of local game for $150 per person. Standouts include wallaby porterhouse tartare, rigatoni with hare ragu, and grilled venison topside with chimichurri.

Matched wines are available for an extra $100 per person. 6.30pm–10pm, July 22. Book here.

Gary McBean x Omnia

Omnia has been wowing South Yarra diners since 2019, when former Vue de Monde and Eleven Madison Park chef Stephen Nairn moved into the ground floor of the Capitol Grand building. For Dine Out, the chef is inviting neighbour Gary McBean of G McBean Family Butcher down from Prahran Market for a special collaboration exploring whole animal butchery and unusual cuts.

The $165 set menu includes five courses plus snacks and features: veal tongue, salt-baked celeriac with black truffle and walnut; chicken-maitake tortellini with ham hock consommé and Meyer lemon; woodfired lamb with mace and harissa; McBean’s “butcher’s secret” cuts; and Omnia’s signature pink lady tarte tatin for dessert. This is a rare opportunity to catch two pros at the top of their game collaborating in one kitchen. 6.30pm–10pm, July 22. Book here.
