Andee Frost's party-throwing credentials are serious. A crucial member of inimitable party collective Animals Dancing, Frost also is a favourite at the Toff with his weekly party, House de Frost. Those who've been will know it's downright danceable disco. For NYE, Frost has recruited Chicago's Sadar Bahar – a veteran disco-funk-soul legend who has never played down under. Sky High Mt Dandenong

Forget finding the best views of the fireworks as the clock strikes 12 and get the best views of the whole city from the Dandenong ranges. Sky High restaurant has two events from 7pm–1am, one on the upper floor and one on the lower. Both include a five-course dinner, entertainment and drinks. Beyond the Valley Music Festival

Falls may be sold out but on the other side of the bay there is a music festival with a stellar line-up including All Day, Bag Raiders, Aston Shuffle, Peking Duk, Ball Park Music, Banoffee, Alunageorge and Nina Las Vegas. For some, it’s a Melbourne tradition to see the fireworks at Fed Square surrounded by hundreds of other people. This year there will be African and samba dancing, an ultraviolet light show and a dance tutorial that will teach you a few steps so when it hits midnight everyone can break out in a mass dance routine.

Have a quiet one on December 31 so you can go hard at Let Them Eat Cake on New Year’s Day. Werribee Mansion will host five stages of Melbourne’s underground electronic music. The line-up includes Axel Boman, Ben Pearce, Bob Moses, Carl Craig, Cashmere Cat, DJ Sneak, DJ Vadim, Goldie and Fatima among others.
