On the first Friday of June, we celebrate one of the only foods that tastes better with a chunk out of the middle – National Doughnut Day.
Here are the doughnut-makers giving away freebees on Friday, and those serving up something special.
Melbourne’s Greek Doughnut kings are running a happy hour with free doughnuts from 6pm to 7pm. Originally a food truck, Lukumades’ owner Exarhos Sourligas opened his West Melbourne storefront because customers wanted to buy his golden-fried dumpling outside of festivals and events.
Head to the famous gold and purple van at the Dandenong Market for a free jam doughnut between 8am and 4pm, or until sold out.
Shortstop is giving customers a free Cinnamon Spice Cake Donut with every order. It’s the best kind of buy-one-get-one-free. Only one per order, while stock lasts.
Doughnut Time isn’t giving away its stuff for free, but it is launching three limited edition “mega” doughnuts. Each one is big enough to feed roughly four people. Think an overload of sprinkles, M&M's and cookie pieces. D’oh Nut! is a simple strawberry glaze with sprinkles; Big Poppa is Nutella-filled with chocolate glaze, crispy M&M's and mini M&M's; and the Chris Hemsworthy is a red velvet doughnut with vegan cookies and cream frosting, crushed choc-ripple biscuits and a vegan chocolate glaze drizzle. They’re available from June 2 to 8.
Doughboys Doughnuts are launching a milk chocolate and strawberry cheesecake doughnut, with proceeds going to the Koala Kids Foundation to help raise awareness for children with cancer. It’s also offering nine other flavours on the day – a selection of recent favourites.
If you haven’t tried one of Morgan Hipworth’s ambitious doughnut creations but you’ve meaning to, Friday is the day to do it. With every purchase, customers get an additional special mini-doughnut for free. Six packs are also on special, marked down to $25.
In its biggest doughnut giveaway ever, the airport favourite will give away 30,000 original glazed doughnuts. No strings attached, but it is on a first come, first served basis. Here’s the Melbourne stores at which you can score a freebie.
