It has been a long week. The cupboard’s bare and your bin is full of greasy takeaway containers. You long for a fresh, home-cooked meal but you certainly don’t have the energy to throw it together yourself. Thankfully, Urban Provedore has already done it for you.
The Toorak Road shopfront has cabinets lined with takeaway lunch and dinner dishes such as braised duck leg with colcannon potato, duck and orange reduction or lemongrass beef curry with basmati rice. Sounds good, right? Even better, everything is locally sourced where possible.
Former head chef at the Tanti Hotel on the Mornington Peninsula, Andy Ledson understands the difference local produce can make. “The moment you pick something its nutrients and flavours start to deteriorate. So if you can get it picked that morning or the night before and have it delivered to your door, you’re going to maximise the quality of your products,” Ledson says. “It makes no sense to do it any other way.”
For those with a little more time on their hands, Urban Provedore also has an all-day dine-in breakfast menu with crowd-pleasers such as Spanish baked eggs with house baked beans. The venue is licensed, allowing you to settle in with a glass of King Valley Prosecco or Mountain Goat Ale. “Everyone loves breakfast at 3 o’clock in the afternoon – it must be a Melbourne thing,” says Ledson.
Urban Provedore also sells some of its favourite, quality products, with shelves lined with everything from The Hidden Souk spices to Yarra Valley preserves and Pangkarra pastas.
