“After over five years of wonderful support from our business partners, loyal staff, suppliers, and Richmond locals Union Dining will be celebrating its final service on Saturday 4th of February.”

So began a farewell letter from Union Dining owners chef Nicky Riemer and Adam Cash.

“It is with great sadness that Nicky and Adam are preparing to say goodbye,” the pair wrote in a statement.

Riemer and Cash opened their restaurant in a heritage-listed building on Swan Street in May 2011. It was a high-profile opening at the time with Riemer, the former executive chef at Melbourne Wine Room and one of the city’s most prominent female chefs, and Cash, the former front-of-house manager at Cutler & Co.

In a no-frills dining room, Riemer serves up provincial European dishes that have won numerous accolades and got Union Dining named on various best restaurant lists.

“Both experienced hospitality restaurateurs they have always enjoyed a strong relationship within the partnership which makes up Union Dining (Union Dining is like family – reflected in the food and service) and all parties involved in the business have agreed to part ways amicably,” the letter said.

“Nicky and Adam have loved every minute of their time at Union Dining and are incredibly proud of everyone both past and present who they have worked with over the years, at the same time they are equally excited about future opportunities that lie ahead.”

The note did not indicate Cash and Riemer’s plans going forward.

To celebrate the past six years, Union Dining is hosting a final Sunday Locals Lunch on Sunday January 29, focused on ingredients and wines sourced from some of their favourite Victorian vineyards, farmers and producers.

“It will be a big day of food, memories and laughter as we look back on the time spent together on Swan Street,” Riemer and Cash wrote.

The final day of service will be February 4. Stop in and say farewell.
