Get ready for city views and cooling froths because construction is underway on Melbourne’s favourite river bar, Arbory Afloat.
It’s due to open more than a month early, too. Last year the bar set sail in late November, but this year the plan is to be serving cocktails on the Yarra by the end of September.
The buoyant sibling of Arbory Bar & Eatery is getting a major upgrade: a new 19-metre extension. Last summer’s set-up was 50 metres long with a 400-person capacity.
Executive chef Nick Bennett is whipping up a new menu, but is definitely bringing back the pizza oven, and sommelier Raúl Moreno Yagüe’s is hard at work selecting the wine list.
Lucienne Hemmingway from Curious by Design will play with the same modern-Mediterranean-inspired theme as last season but with a new design and colour palette. What we do know is that orange trees have been delivered to the pontoon, so expect some fragrant citrus while you sip on a spritz.
