A new Rustica Canteen has just opened up opposite a new rooftop bar, around the corner from a new chicken shop and next door to the ever-popular Gelato Messina. That’s breakfast, dinner, drinks and dessert within a 30-metre radius.
Co-owner and executive chef Tristan White of Rustica says they didn’t know that was going to happen when they secured the space.
Rustica Richmond is similar to Rustica CBD, but instead of drawing the in-and-out corporate crowd it’s a winning weekend brunch spot for locals. White’s favourites from the breakfast menu are the sweet-potato smash with hazelnut dukkah and goat’s curd, and the wholemeal waffles. Both can be enjoyed alongside a coffee from Rumble Coffee Roasters.
There are also two glass cabinets of toasties, slices, doughnuts and cakes, and a wall of fresh sourdough to take away.
“We hardly sell any bread in the city, but people in Richmond are already using this store as a bakery, which is what we fully intended it to be,” says manager Rosie Riding.
While it may seem hasty to open a new venue only six months after the last there are plans to keep the momentum going.
