Two Italian icons are coming together to bring the House of Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0% to life for four days during the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Johnny’s Green Room – the Lygon Street rooftop venue evoking Italian hotel bars and restaurants from Rome to the Amalfi Coast – is the backdrop for the Roman beer label’s local pop-up, an off-track hub for racegoers to park between rallies.

From March 13 to 16, you can ride the lift to the bar, with its sweeping views across Carlton’s treetops and the city skyline, and be greeted by the Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0% cart at the entrance. Then drift over to the dedicated Peroni Zone – marked by the Peroni flagpole – and park yourself to watch the races on the big screen.

The main event falls on Sunday March 16 – the day of the big race – when Johnny’s and Peroni will screen the Grand Prix live, then throw an afterparty with an Italian market that includes Giorgio Linguanti from That’s Amore serving fresh mozzarella; special desserts from Pidapipo downstairs; a giant parmesan wheel from Mayers Fine Food and cracking demonstration from The Studd Siblings Sam and Ellie Studd; and Lygon Street staple Donati’s Fine Meats grilling sausages and carving porchetta to pack into fresh, crusty panini. The celebrations will be backed by a roster of local DJs selected by Hope St Radio.

Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0% is the team partner of the Scuderia Ferrari HP team. Matt Bax (of Bar Americano fame) is creating a series of F1-inspired cocktails, including the Margherita Margarita – featuring blanco tequila, Peroni, Aceto Balsamico di Modena, bay leaves, charred red pepper, pepperoncini, oregano and fresh lime with a black-salt-and-chilli-spiced crust.

A souped-up menu – alongside culinary director Karen Martini’s usual Italian offering – will feature snacky specials like tuna carpaccio and eggplant fritters for a quick pit stop, plus larger plates like chicken cotoletta and seafood linguine for those who need to refuel.

DJs from Hope St Radio, Matt Bax’s new range of cocktails and the menu specials will be available on the rooftop from March 14 to 16, so pop in any time during F1 weekend to get in on the action.
