Piccolina is making it much easier to be dad’s favourite on Father’s Day this year. The gelateria crafted giant frozen baci for mum last May, and is going small-scale this time around with a box set of rich cremino in four special flavours.

A cremino is typically a square chocolate treat with three layers: the top and bottom are made of gianduja (chocolate and hazelnut), while the inner layer is a creamy paste similar to a ganache, sometimes flavoured with coffee, hazelnut or lemon.

Piccolina’s version has outer layers of gelato with ganache in the centre, all coated in chocolate. The Cremino Classico is milk chocolate ganache sandwiched between Better than Nutella gelato, with milk chocolate and roasted hazelnut on the outside. There’s a pistachio gelato number, too, with pistachio and white chocolate ganache. The Cremino Torrone is nougat gelato with roasted almonds, and an inner layer of gianduja ganache. There’s also a chocolate and fior di latte gelato version with dark chocolate orange ganache.

Each cremino piece is individually wrapped in silver foil printed with the flavour names, and all four come in a limited-edition Piccolina box.

Each box is $32 and can serve eight to 10. The treats are already available for pre-order online and can be picked up from the gelataria’s Hawthorn, St Kilda and Collingwood outlets from August 24 to September 1. A limited number will also be available for direct purchase at stores from August 19.
