With a background in transport and logistics, as well as being one of the many food fanatics in his family, Tahl Katz always knew that there was a good reason to combine the two.
Enter (via scooter no less) The Odd Pod, the latest player in the growing lunchtime delivery service game. Katz’s plan is to keep it simple. No shopfront – just fresh, interesting salads delivered straight to your office.
The Odd Pod’s salads are based on family recipes, which, as Katz cheekily admits, are likely to have been stolen from his foodie sisters. “All of our ingredients are sourced from the South Melbourne Markets across the street from our kitchen, from the meats, to the fish, to the vegies. Everything we use is fantastically fresh,” says Katz.
Among the most popular salads on the menu is Hola Chica, a Mexican number that packs a punch with chilli lime dressing over chicken, tomato, black beans, corn, feta and a few corn chips for crunch. This little wonder is only available on Wednesdays, but that’s the beauty of The Odd Pod – the menu is different every day of the week, with five salads on offer each day.
From packaging chilli and dressing in a separate container, to keeping garlic to a minimum (to prevent smelly office encounters), Katz has thought through every issue and convenience, for both you and your office neighbour.
Katz is starting out small, delivering only to South Melbourne and Docklands for now, but there are plans to expand to St Kilda Road, Southbank, Port Melbourne and eventually the CBD.
For a lunch delivery from The Odd Pod, place your order by 3pm on the day before. There are no added delivery fees but there is a minimum order of $40. The Odd Pod delivers weekdays between 11am and 1pm.
Update: The Odd Pod is now delivering to the CBD and surrounding suburbs.
