Netflix’s new miniseries Apple Cider Vinegar tells the story of Belle Gibson – the Australian influencer who, in the 2010s, falsely claimed she was diagnosed with brain cancer and cured herself through “nutrition, patience, determination and love” and built a mini wellness empire out of the lie.
Created by Samantha Strauss (Dance Academy, Nine Perfect Strangers) and starring Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart, Short Term 12) as Gibson, the series is set mostly in Melbourne and Byron Bay. It’s filled with Aussie references including a Geelong Cats jersey and the Women’s Weekly ’s iconic swimming pool birthday cake (and Aisha Dee’s character Chanelle even wakes up hungover after a night where she “ended up at Revolver”).
Apple Cider Vinegar was largely shot on location in Melbourne, and viewers have clocked local favourites including Happy Valley in Fitzroy, Piccolina in Collingwood, Hot-Listed venue Luther’s Scoops and Mediterranean Wholesalers in Brunswick, and The Retreat Hotel in Abbotsford. Here are nine more locations you may recognise from the show.
