Alexandra Pyke wants her new cafe, The Alley, to cater to uncompromising vegans as well as those who are simply health-conscious.

Set to open in mid-March, the menu is 100 per cent plant-based with an aim to provide comfort food, without the guilt.

That means a Maple Bacon Burger (that’s coconut bacon) and gluten-free mac‘n’cheese (that’s creamy bean and cashew sauce “cheese”) sit alongside salads (think kelp noodles), pressed juices and acai bowls. There will be a range of grab-and-go options, and you can stay for a drink too, with craft beer and biodynamic wine on the drinks list.

Pyke has recently returned from several years in New York, where she opened popular farm-to-table restaurant, The Fat Radish, in the Lower East Side and partnered in The Leadbelly bar and vegetarian cafe The Butcher’s Daughter, also in downtown Manhattan.

Architect Travis Walton is designing the space.
