Baker D. Chirico sprung up last week opposite the Royal Botanical Gardens on Domain Road in South Yarra for a nice and lengthy pop-up of six to 12 months. In 2017, it’ll be developed into a permanent bakery.

The South Yarra site will feature all your favourite ready-made baked goods; from savoury pastries and crusty sourdoughs, to the light, sugar-dusted bomboloni.

Baker D. is as well known for its high-end interior design as it is its sourdough (see its Carlton store, built like the inside of a breadbasket). The new store, designed by founder Daniel Chirico’s partner, Allona Goren, features contemporary surrealist wallpaper art and packaging by local artist Misha Hollenbach.

This is the pair’s third store, continuing on the successful expansion from their Carlton and St Kilda venues.

While the space is yet to add a coffee machine and seating – which will come with the permanent venue – the pop-up has your summer picnic sorted. Grab your goods and enjoy a sweet and savoury summer by the gardens, courtesy of Baker D.
