Bibi Ji is a vibrant Indian diner in Carlton from South Asian restaurant impresario Amarjeet Singh (behind Horn Please, Daughter in Law, Pinky Ji and Dhaba at the Mill).

On Friday July 11, Broadsheet Access is hosting a Readers’ Dinner unlike any that have come before, to celebrate Bibi Ji's first birthday. There’ll be a line-up of traditional performances to entertain you all night – from a dhol (traditional drumming) set, to live belly dancers and a henna artist.

Access members will enjoy a custom set menu of Indian dishes, plus bottomless drinks. Here’s a sneak peek of the menu.

Corn ribs

Tender corn is steamed and sliced into rib-style portions, then seasoned with a house blend of spices and lightly fried until golden. They’re smoky, crunchy and slightly sweet.

Balls of happiness

These crisp, golden pani puris are filled with spiced mashed potatoes and served with a chilled, tangy tamarind-mint water. Each bite delivers an explosion of flavour and texture.

Dhaba-style goat curry

Inspired by roadside dhabas across India, the goat is slow-cooked in a rich onion-tomato base until the meat is tender. It’s rustic, nostalgic and packed with spice.

Shahi paneer

Soft cubes of paneer are simmered in a velvety sauce made from cashews, cream and fragrant spices. It’s mildly sweet, and definitely comfort food.

Gajar halwa

This traditional dessert is made by slowly cooking grated carrots in ghee, milk and sugar until they’re rich and tender. It’s finished with crushed nuts and a hint of cardamom, and served as a warm pudding.
