After five years of trading, much-loved Thornbury local, Lowlands, has tacked a sign in the window stating that it will be closing its doors on February 16.

Owners Oliver Mckay and Chrissie Trabucco stated in the note: “We do not want to leave. However the property owners have made it impossible for us to secure our future in this little business we have built up… no doubt it will one day be another apartment block.”

Despite their sadness, they also extended “a big thank you to all our customers and staff and neighbouring shops for all the support they have given us over the last five years.”

The statement concluded with the suggestion: “drink coffee at Boundary Espresso and Northern Soul” and, in underlined font, to “support small, local, owner-operator businesses.”

Trabucco says that she and Mackay will be turning their attention towards Assembly, a specialty coffee and tea bar that the couple opened in March last year, along with a new, "comfy" espresso bar in the shop next to it that is set to open later this month.
