There’s no doubt about it, chef George Calombaris has been busy. Between hosting MasterChef Australia and overseeing his acclaimed Melbourne restaurants (Hellenic Republic and Maha Bar & Grill) he’s still found the time to overhaul what was the bar of his flagship restaurant The Press Club, and reinvent it as Little Press and Cellar.
Opening its doors last week, the interior is styled on a Greek mezethopolio - a place to enjoy small plates and share dishes. The new space of Little Press aims to offer everything that the big Press does, with dishes paying homage to The Press Club menu. “I wanted to create an inviting eatery that anyone can drop in, at any time, to enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, late supper or even a pre-dinner drink,” says Calombaris.
But there’s more than just the new bar space according to the Press Club Group. Little Press and Cellar will also provide a private dining space set in the basement of Little Press, where private groups can enjoy their function surrounded by The Press Club’s range of wines in The Cellar room.
