Steve Rowley, Matthew Vero, Kerrie Townley and Ryan Lording are reanimating a former real estate agency that once occupied three shopfronts on the corner of Bay Road and Station Street in Sandringham.
The as-yet unnamed cafe spans 260-square-metres and includes a courtyard, a communal dining space and expansive outdoor seating, just across the road from Sandringham Beach.
“Currently it's looking fairly rough as our usual step is to take it back to bare bones and rebuild from there,” says Rowley. “It's going to look a little different to what we have done prior, which is always fun.”
Architect Fiona Drago (also Left Field and Plain Sailing) will look after the fit-out, which will be more rustic than the group’s other venues. “Think timber window facades, colourful cement tiles, exposed brick walls and very family friendly,” says Rowley.
Food will be in line with what head chef Ryan Lording has become known for at Left Field and previously Tall Timber.
“Fresh, clean, flavourful dishes. Lots of new ones and a few crowd favourites we know people love.”
One thing the team is particularly excited about? “Our chefs will be able to see the ocean from the stove,” says Rowley.
Sandy feet won’t be shunned here.
The new cafe will be located at 7-7A-7B Bay Road, Sandringham, and is expected to open March–April 2018.
