After a four-year hiatus, one of Broadsheet’s most coveted competitions has returned. It’s Seven Dinners in Seven Nights, which gives you and a friend the chance to dine at a different Melbourne restaurant every night for a week – with Broadsheet picking up the tab. Better yet, you’ll be chauffeured to and from each destination thanks to rideshare aggregator app Placie.
We’ll be taking Seven Dinners in Seven Nights all around the country in 2022, starting with Melbourne, before we jet over to Sydney. In every city we’re focusing on the hottest new restaurants, with a few classics in the mix. Here’s the first itinerary:
The week begins at Chris Lucas’s new neon-lit eatery. Channelling Tokyo’s late-night izakayas, the restaurant’s Japanese-inspired menu plays heavily with fire.
Head to Khanh Nguyen’s sophomore restaurant for an evening of Southeast Asian flavours and native Australian ingredients brought together in creative, surprising ways. Our favourite dish? The duck-sausage “Bunnings” sanga.
Andrew McConnell’s Asian-inspired restaurant needs no introduction. Settle in and work your way through the chef’s menu, featuring all the classics, including the New England lobster roll and the peanut butter parfait.
Thursday: Hope St Radio
Community radio station Hope St Radio found a new home in Collingwood Yards last year and with it, a neighbourly wine bar led by Ellie Bouhadana. Listen to local DJs as you eat seasonal plates from seafood-centric snacks to handmade pasta.
This new all-day eatery at ACMI is headed up by celebrity chef Karen Martini and pastry chef Philippa Sibley. The menu is European-leaning, with the stars of the show including crumbed-fish sandwiches, potato focaccia and seasonal salads.
Saturday: Nomad Melbourne
Experience the delicate yet fiery flavours at the Melbourne outpost of this much-loved Sydney eatery. With a chef’s menu and matched wines, you’ll be getting the full treatment.
End the week with a yakitori feast at the San Telmo Group's newest opening. Sip on whisky cocktails under an array of neon signs as you await skewers and heftier dishes like pork tonkatsu with cabbage and a kaisen don.
