The ground floor of the Melbourne Town Hall will host a pop-up cafe from August 4–6 during Homelessness Prevention Week.
In partnership with STREAT cafe, which provides hospitality training to homeless youth in Melbourne, HoMe will serve free coffee from 8am–2pm on the corner of Little Collins and Swanston Street. Don’t forget to bring a donation.
Lunchtime talks and open discussions to dispel myths about homelessness will be held by the Council to Homeless Persons from 12.30pm–1.30pm each day. Thursday's panel discussion will be particularly focussed on re-addressing the stereotype of homelessness, speaking to volunteers that have directly experienced it.
With the rise of social enterprise establishments around Melbourne including the new-ish Long Street Coffee and the well-known and established Shebeen, Lentil as Anything, and STREAT’s multiple Melbourne locations, not-for-profit hospitality venues are proving that making a difference is possible, even in the middle of the rat race.
HoMe is open from 8am–2pm from August 4–6 at the Melbourne Town Hall.
