If you’re nervous about going out to dinner as restaurants reopen, three Melbourne pubs have an alternative to their indoor dining rooms: cosy private igloos in the garden or by the water.
The Australian Venue Co trialled the pop-up igloos at Fed Square last year and is bringing them back for winter 2020 at the Auburn Hotel in Hawthorn, the waterside Wharf Hotel in Docklands, and Footscray’s the Station Hotel.
Two to four people can book the igloos for a three-course meal, which will vary depending on which pub you’re at. The menus are priced between $49 and $69 and include an Espresso Martini, Hot Toddy, house wine or schooner of beer to drink.
Additional drinks can be ordered bar-to-igloo using the Mr Yum menu app, and an extra $5 will buy you a fleecy blanket to take home.
Bookings are for 1.5 or two hours, depending on the venue, and there’s a 30-minute break in between for cleaning.
A family-friendly igloo package is also coming to Studley Park Boathouse in Kew from next week.
