New projects from Jerome Borazio of Ponyfish Island, Back Alley Sally’s and St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival fame are coming in fast this week.

First was the announcement of Reunion Island Pool Club, opening in a few weeks on Melbourne Central’s rooftop. And now comes news of Harry and Larry’s General Store.

Billed as an urban general store, the new shop has opened just by Back Alley Sally’s and Slice Girls West pizza joint.

Hand-painted signage is by artist and long time St. Jerome's collaborator Brendan Coghlan. An oversized mirrorball turns above aisles stocking products including goods from Dench Bakers, milk from St. David’s Dairy, cheese from Meredith Dairy, Jonny condoms, Who Gives a Crap toilet paper and Marissa’s fresh pasta, to name a few.

Produce is sourced locally in the west, and from select producers on the Mornington Peninsula.

There aren't any single-use plastic bags; instead Borazio has plans to bring in reusable, hand-sewn Boomerang Bags, made by volunteers. An honour system means the bags are free and shoppers are encouraged to re-use them every time they visit. You can also BYO a reusable bag, and there are paper bags for free.

Brews are from All Press Coffee, and toasted focaccias are named after notable locals such as Franco Cozzo, Julia Gillard and Katie Brennan.
